As regards the Great Pyramids at Giza, the first things that must be abandoned are that the assumptions that we have inherited from previous generations are factual. The linchpin of all existing theories regarding the Great Pyramids at Giza is that they were built by Pharaohs as tombs. If they were built as tombs for Pharaohs, they are the only ones completely devoid of interior decoration of any kind. That a proud Pharaoh would expend the resources to construct such an edifice without leaving any inscription, statuary, frescos, artifacts, or other documentation of their lifetime behind in their eternal monument is ludicrous.

This is a photograph of the rock cut tomb of Meresankh near the Pyramids. Meresankh was a grand daughter of the Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops) and the sister-wife of the Pharaoh Khafre.

As is readily evident, every inch of the walls of her tomb bear decoration including statuary. This is absolute proof that tomb decoration was in use at the time the Pyramids were built. Are we to believe that the great Pharoahs said to have built the Pyramids as their tombs treated their women better than they treated themselves?

NOT BLOODY LIKELY!

The only justification for attributing the largest of the Great Pyramids to the Pharaoh Khufu, or Cheops, is a stenciled cartouche [oval lozenge with person's name contained], which is found in a crawl space over what is called the King's chamber. This crawl space was never intended to be seen by anyone. It's existence was only revealed when the stone ceiling of the King's chamber was blasted open by Howard Vyse in the 19th century. The existence of this singular painted cartouche is simply too thin, and too inadequate to justify the hypothesis that Khufu built this pyramid as a tomb.

If the Great Pyramids are tombs, why then are the interior chambers of Cheops smoothly finished and polished, rather than highly decorated?

ANSWER: Obviously, they were not built as tombs.

The idea that tomb robbers washed away all frescos, chiseled off all inscription, refinished and polished the walls and floors is just plain stupid.

That the Great Pyramids were built as tombs does not have to be disproven; it never has been proven!

Idiocy is being defined by those who continue, at this late date, to identify these great structures as tombs for Pharaohs.

Unfortunately since this logical conclusion contradicts widely held commonly accepted misconceptions espoused by conventional ‘ experts, ' whose careers and reputations are invested in the tomb theory, new and more accurate explanations are rejected out of hand.

Drs. Zahi Hawass (current head of the Supreme Council on Antiquities [SCA]) and his trusty sidekick and faithful companion, Mark Lehner, zealously guard their own assumptions. This constitutes a tyranny of ignorance that holds the community, and Egypt itself, hostage to their egocentric opinions.

When these two and other ranking ‘ experts ' are asked why there is no decoration or inscription within the pyramids the current answer is "Since everybody knew who the Pharaoh was, it wasn't necessary he carve his name." When challenged their most frequent reply is "What else could they be?"

Neither answer is acceptable.

Mark Lehner, former Edgar Cayce protegee, appeared in a documentary in the 90's where he postulated that the Pharoah Khufu, upon visiting early construction and descending into what is called ‘ the grotto, ' said "No, I want my tomb higher... higher." From this speculation Lehner apparently contends that whoever the staff was that was doing the building scrapped the original plan and substituted an Earth commensurate Pyramid 757.5 feet on a side and some 482 feet high on short notice after construction had already begun.

And this is what is suppose to be passing for learned intelligence in the archeological community!

Dr. Zahi Hawass, is not much better as far as his track record goes. Seldom right, he is never in doubt. In response to my question, in 1998, at the National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., Dr. Hawass stated, in front of 800 people, and on camera, with emphatic certainty that he was absolutely sure there were no additional chambers within Cheops, other than the ones already known. Dr. Hawass was present however on September 17th, 2002 when ‘ Gattenbrink's Door ' was drilled to reveal precisely such additional chambers. So much for what Dr. Hawass claims he ‘knows.'

The facts are that he was absolutely and completely wrong. Wrong about one thing and therefore possibly wrong about other things.

In response to my question regarding the possibility that interior ramps were used to build Cheops, Dr. Hawass stated, in an angry tone, that his theory that the ramps used in construction of the Pyramid came from the West side of the Pyramid was the only possibility. He refused to accept any further questioning.

The first version of the Open Cheops Committee's website, like this one, gave specific details regarding the existence of additional unopened chambers. In this regard, I was completely right, and Dr. Hawass was completely wrong. I also gave a completely more plausible scenario for the construction of Cheops which features the identification of the ramps used as interior, rather than exterior, to the Pyramid itself. I also suggested that the so called ' air shafts ' were used to communicate between chambers rather than primarily for air circulation. The new room opened in 2002 proved my theory to be correct as far as additional rooms go,supports my assertion that many more undiscovered chambers await us, and that the air shafts could serve very practically for voice communication between chambers.

Over the years, Hawass has repeatedly deflected legitimate questions with a lame story that some nutcase accused him of having a tunnel into Cheops from his office's bathroom. He routinely relegates all but his own pet theories to the wastebin of UFO nuts. Hawass is quoted on the NOVA website as claiming that he and Lehner have the ‘ most open minds in Egypt. ' If such is the case, heaven help Egypt. Both Hawass and Lehner have worked this angle to death, and time has more than come for them to address legitimate ideas if they can! Meanwhile, here is a photograph of an electric line going into one of the light wells behind the afforementioned office. What need of electricity inside a tunnel if nothing is going on Dr. Hawass?

Dr. Hawass also lays claim to having cleaned up the Giza plateau. As any recent visitor can readily see, the plain is full of litter of all descriptions. The nooks and crannies of the various structures at Giza are full of trash. Heavy electric lines protrude from the dirt everywhere one goes, and fallen rocks remain in place where they fell onto and crushed a major klieg light. All of this taken together is most unpleasant to the visitor, and in some cases dangerous as well. No wonder more and more areas are off limits to tourists. It's easier and cheaper than cleaning things up. In his new autobiography Dr. Hawass says theess is because "The site has traditionally been crammed with visitors, most of whom don't seem to be trained to take away their trash..." So the problem is not due to any failure on his part to better administrate the site, but on poorly trained tourists !

The facts are that there is not a single waste receptacle anywhere at the Giza plain. The entire job of the archeologist assigned to supervise our filming was to get police officers to quickly pick up any trash or garbage that would appear in the scenes we were shooting. Except for their filming fees, this was what was most important to them.

Hawass has even had a wall built to keep the local villagers away from the Pyramids. In doing so, he is relegating the poor but honest people of the Nazlet El Saman to even greater poverty. The villagers say he has a plan to raze their village altogether. The village of Nazlet El Saman, in front of the Sphinx, is probably the longest continually inhabited place of the face of the earth (at least 4,500 years.) Despite the poverty, Nazlet El Saman is a place where laughing children race each other horseback up the dirt streets. The people there are the heart and soul of the spirit of Egypt. Many families have been there for hundreds of generations. (Only recently has Hawass rescinded the razing of the Nazlet due to political sympathy for its inhabitants.)

There have been some recent changes at Giza, but not many for the better. Instead of maintaining the air passages that link the King's chamber in Cheops to the outside (which would maintain a perfect temperate atmosphere) or installing ducting which could do the same (and which would not damage a thing), Hawass has simply chosen to limit the number of daily visitors to the interior of Cheops to three hundred people a day. How many tourists are going to spend thousands of dollars to visit when the chance for entering the most famous site on the planet is a crap shoot? In a sense, Hawass is contributing to the demise of tourism as much as any terrorist organization can. If you read his book, Hawass apparantly blames tourism itself for many of his problems.

It is obvious that Dr. Hawass considers himself to be both the law and the brain police as far as Egyptian antiquities go. ( Praying or meditating in the King's Chamber is now an illegal act.)This conclusion is becoming more widely held all the time. The man has become the clown prince of Egypt as his appearances on western TV, particularly on the FOX Network, become less and less factual, and more and more egotistical. Even lay persons in the West who do not know many specifics about the Pyramids recognize a hammy actor when they see one. Archeology in Egypt is not about him, or his personal opinions. Obstruction and obfuscation hold not only Egypt, but the world back. Many in the archeological community in Egypt are calling Dr. Hawass an embarrassment at large. Good archeologists are hard to come by. Bad politicians are a dime a dozen. It would be best if the two had remained separate.

Dr.Hawass has continually called those of us who are lobbying for new theories to be accepted "idiots, alleged archeologists, and pseudo-scientists." Time will tell this tale, and we shall see just who is the idiot, and whose archeology and science will prevail.

First: We challenge Dr. Hawass to offer some proof, any proof other than a hidden cartouche, that any of the Great Pyramids at Giza were built as tombs for Pharaohs, and if he can not, that he resign his office.

Secondly: The Open Cheops Committee challenges Dr. Hawass and all others to scrutinize the contents of our website with a critical view. We are asserting the following propositions to be superior to conventionally held views:

1. The Great Pyramids at Giza were not built as tombs.
2. Their construction was a scientific endeavor.
3. The ramps used in construction are interior to the pyramids and are still intact.
4. At least one entrance to Cheops is in plain sight.
5. There are dozens to hundreds of unopened corridors, halls, and chambers within the pyramids.
6. These chambers contain the archives of antiquity.
7. These archives contain the methodology to attain transcendental consciousness. The science of      consciousness, not religion, was the focus of the builders.

We are calling for an excavation to prove this theory. We welcome all interested parties to participate through the auspices of the Committee. The Open Cheops Committee is open to all who wish to join free of charge. We accept voluntary donations from those who wish to support this endeavor. Please contact us through this site.

We urge everyone to keep an open mind as much as possible. The only way to learn is to go from that which is known to that which is unknown. The only thing we have to lose is a little prevailing ignorance.
